Episode 019: Marshall Doyle

Leadership Insights from the Trenches: Master Your Role, Strengthen Your Team, and Gain Traction like Never Before

with Marshall Doyle, CEO of Cal-Cert

Leader friends, we’re overwhelmed…with all of the golden nuggets we got out of this episode!

If you’re looking to scale your business, shift your mindset, connect with your team, and foster a positive workplace culture where your employees can thrive, this is the episode for you.

Our guest, Marshall Doyle, is the CEO of Cal-Cert, a company that calibrates all kinds of equipment that keeps us safe in ways we take for granted. You might be thinking: why would we feature someone on the topic of calibration here on the Everyday Leader podcast? It’s an easy answer—because Marshall is the epitome of a great leader.

I’m not sure he would classify himself as such, but to those of us who are in the business of helping leaders to be great leaders, Marshall really stands out. He has invested heavily in his own development as a leader and he has put the tools and concepts into practice in ways that have positively benefited himself as well as his team. Marshall is a sublime example of the evolution of a great leader because he takes his responsibility seriously and makes the adjustments necessary to grow himself as well as his team. He took his company from $350,000 to $6 million in annual revenue and he did it by making a study of his role as CEO and putting the hard work and effort in to making the critical shifts necessary to lead the organization he dreamed of. And all this—from a true engineer!

Tune in to this week’s episode for some great leadership insights, and some (very quotable) nuggets of wisdom.

Marshall’s Quotables:

  • A lot of things come together if you get the leadership right.
  • There comes a point where you need to implement…if we don’t execute our big ideas, what good are they? It’s just a bunch of knowledge.
  • If you can find an employee that’s passionate about something that aligns with something you need done, they’re always going to be rockstars.
  • If you pick the right people that have the passion and drive…you can do really well.
  • Employees are the lifeblood of everything.
  • First of all, identify what you’re passionate about, and second of all, just live it.
  • The work of leadership is a tough job.
  • Spend 80% of your time doing what you love.
  • Your day is determined by you, no matter what comes at you that day.

Kat’s quoteable:

  • You’re causing the jam when it’s not your jam.
